| Bio: | OUT OF CHARACTER NAME: Ling Contact Info: Here or Drop me a line here IN CHARACTER NAME: Robert Baratheon JOURNAL: PLAYED BY: Viggo Mortensen FANDOM: A Song of Ice and Fire CANON POINT: A Game of Thrones: Chapter 48 CANON HISTORY: Robert Baratheon, The Usurper, Demon of the Trident IN GAME HISTORY: Robert was born into an old English aristocratic family as the eldest of three Baratheon boys. Like most children of lords and ladies, he spent his childhood at various boarding schools, away from his parents. He was a lively and outgoing boy, not really well-equipped to face the academic challenges, but he was quite good at balancing his lack of intelligence out with exceptionally well-developed social skills. Good leadership skills, the teachers said, which had unfortunately only manifested themselves in the shape of getting himself and his fellow students into all sorts of trouble. Whenever there was an incident, it was safe to assume that Robert Baratheon and Eddard Stark were involved. If the teaching body didn't think that the Stark boy had a somewhat stabilising effect on the unruly Baratheon boy, they would have broken them up. Robert went to uni but dropped out one year later to enroll at RADA instead. His parents were shocked and appalled by the idea that their eldest was going to become an actor. The stubborn young man refused to budge, however, threatening to go to the Starks and break up the marriage they'd arranged for him with Ned's sister himself if they didn't leave him alone. After he graduated, he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, and became a star at London's West End. During a guest performance on Broadway he was approached by a casting agent who took the young Brit to Hollywood. He was cast as the lead in a critically acclaimed drama and rose to stardom in no time. Now, he had it all - success, fame, money and a beautiful wife, the Lannister princess (perfect trophy wife). But Robert being Robert wasn't cut out for that kind of life. Gradually, he lost touch with reality, believing the propaganda and lies all the glossy magazines printed about him, and the decline was inevitable. Drugs, alcohol, women, no film in five years - it was obvious that Robert was finished. Obvious to everyone except Robert. When Cersei moved to Orange County, he remained in Los Angeles, feeding his delusions that his career was going to pick up soon. Very soon. These days, Robert is usually drunk to varying degrees and relies on chemical happy-makers to make it through the day, chemical lullabies to make it through the night and isn't very in touch with anyone or anything around him. He doesn't know or care what his wife is up to, hasn't spoken to his family in years and is lost in dreams of his great comeback. The only person that can still get through and talk some sense into him is Ned - just like when they were boys - but sense never lingers for long. AUDITION The restaurant was nice. One of those places with an ocean view. Sitting outside, Robert stared at the ocean from behind his sunglasses. Would have liked to take them off and see if the water was as startling blue as he imagined it to be but he'd probably go blind if he did. Too early, too bright yet. The sunlight was warm on his face, the glass sitting in his palm cool, sweating. He liked the contrast. Dry heat and damp cold. No middle ground there. "Robert, Robert, Robert, Robert!" He blinked and turned his attention to the man sitting across the table. His agent. "What?" "Did you hear a single word I said?" No. "Yes. Sounds interesting. Go on." | ||||||||||
